Have you created your Shopify store and want to edit the CSS files? Don't know where to find your CSS files ? Below, we'll explain everything you need to know to find and edit your CSS on Shopify.
All the Shopify files, and of course Shopify Plus files, that you can edit are stored in the same place. To access them, it's very simple; you need to have editing rights for the theme on your store.
If you are a Store Owner (the owner of the Shopify store) you have all access by default.
Then, you have to go to “Online Store” / “Theme” / “Actions” / “Edit Code”. Be careful, you will be editing the code of your Shopify store live! You must master HTML, CSS and even ideally the Liquid language (the language of Shopify themes).
Remember to save your theme before any CSS modifications!
To avoid making mistakes, consider backing up your theme by simply duplicating your existing theme. You can watch “ how to duplicate a Shopify theme ” to learn more.
Edit Shopify CSS
Once you have your Shopify code in front of you, you have several files in the left column. You can scroll down to the “Assets” section.
You should find a file called “theme.css” or “global.css” there. The name of the css file, or files, depends on your Shopify theme. In our case, it’s called “theme.scss.liquid” .
It's up to you to decide which CSS file to modify based on your design needs. If you can't find your CSS file or don't know how to modify it, you can contact one of our web experts who will modify your CSS for you.
