Want to add a pick-up point delivery service to your Shopify e-commerce site? Here are a few steps you can take to add this new delivery method yourself, free of charge and without the need for an app.
What is Mondial Relay?

Before we begin, a quick reminder of what Mondial Relay is exactly.
It is a delivery service, therefore transporting packages from your warehouse to the end customer, which will deliver to relay points exclusively, it is therefore not home delivery.
The network of relay points is quite dense in France.
The official Mondial Relay website lists more than 21,000 collection points in France and Europe and more than 2,700 lockers available almost around the clock.
It is therefore a delivery network which allows delivery not to be made directly to the customer but to a relay point: store, grocery store, locker, etc.
Mondial Relay is a fairly French specialty, even though the service has been developing in Europe for several years. Among its competitors, we can cite the Colissimo relay point network, which does roughly the same thing.
Why add Mondial Relay to your Shopify store?
There are several good reasons for wanting to add Mondial Relay: the first, often mentioned, remains the lowest delivery cost for the merchant.
Delivery to a relay point is in fact more financially interesting because it is less expensive for everyone: the merchant but also the carrier.
It is important to know that what is called last mile delivery remains the point of friction and cost for most delivery people.
The fact that packages are dropped off “en masse” at a single collection point allows Mondial Relay to make cost savings and pass this reduction on to the delivery price charged to merchants.
This also helps reduce returns or missed deliveries. In short, it's a pretty advantageous system for anyone who works during the day and isn't home for deliveries.
Many sites, Shopify, Prestashop, Magento , Woocommerce, use it to offer delivery from a certain purchase amount.
What is the price of Mondial Relay?
Like all carriers, the price will vary depending on the weight of the order. The heavier the order, the higher the price.
However, it should be noted that very often, delivery to a relay point allows e-merchants to reduce delivery costs by around 30%. This obviously varies depending on many criteria, but the difference is not negligible.
How to install Mondial Relay on Shopify?
Installing Mondial Relay on Shopify has become extremely simple in recent times. The good news is that you won't need an app or even open a Mondial Relay account.
Go to your Shopify back office settings

Then select “Shipping and Deliveries”
Go to “Ship to Relay Points” and click on your location. If you have more than one location that offers relay point delivery, you will need to repeat this process several times.

Check the box “Ship to relay points from this location.”

Then click on the 3 small dots on the right to modify the prices
Click on “Add a price subject to a condition” and define here the different price grids, depending on the weight or the price of the order, that you want to apply.
For example, for free delivery from €50 but charged €4.90 below, here is the configuration to adopt:

Remember to click Finish then Save at the top right and voila! Your customers will now have the option to choose delivery to a relay point on your Shopify site.
You can choose to deliver to Mondial Relay points or Colissimo points or both. The only problem is that you will only be able to set one price list. It will not be possible to have different shipping costs for Colissimo points and Mondial Relay points.
When checking out, the customer will see a map of the relay points near them, as well as the option to have their order delivered to any relay point.
On your side, in the administration, in the delivery address of the order, you will see the address of the relay point. The billing address will be with the customer's address.
How to print Mondial Relay labels?
Once a customer selects pickup point delivery, you'll see the option to print the label directly on the order. It's possible to order labels in bulk if you have a large number of orders, of course.
The price of the label will be a price set by “Shopify Shipping”. Please note that Shopify Shipping is not a delivery service but “just” a Shopify service that has pre-negotiated delivery labels for you at advantageous prices. Therefore, no individual Mondial Relay account is required.
But what is the Mondial Relay application for then?
but then if we can have the relay points before payment, if there is no need for an application or Mondial Relay account, why is there a Mondial Relay application in the Shopify appstore?
Very good question! But there are several answers.
The first is that everything I explained above is quite new. For a long time, using the official Mondial Relay app was the only solution for managing this delivery method. This is no longer the case, but the app still exists for those who haven't yet switched to Shopify Shipping.

But there is a second case, if you want to go through your own “personal” Mondial Relay account you can do it through the application.
This can be interesting in one case: if you have many shipments and you get a better rate via Mondial Relay directly. It is possible.
If you have a Mondial Relay “group” contract, it is also possible that it is financially more interesting to go direct.
In short, let's hope that the two possibilities can coexist to generate maximum competition and keep prices low for merchants.
Please note that the application is chargeable, and can quickly add up on a Shopify Advanced or higher, but above all, the relay point map can only be installed AFTER payment.
It's a shame, but there is no official solution to date.
Mondial Relay Shopify FAQ:
Unable to print a Mondial Relay label
You should know that there are two main reasons if you cannot print a Mondial Relay label from the back office: Either the order is prior to the Mondial Relay configuration, or the total weight of the order is less than 200 grams.
Don't worry, you can indicate a cardboard weight sufficient to reach 200 grams and generate the label but you will not be overcharged because the first grid goes from 0 to 1 kg.
Merci d’avance
