I think that if you have turned on the radio, television or simply opened a newspaper for the last 10 years, you could not miss what is surely the most important challenge of our century: the protection of the planet and the environment.
So what is the protection of the environment or animal species doing on a blog dedicated to e-commerce and Shopify?
Well, apart from the fact that we at Pikka are convinced that the environment is a subject that concerns and should involve everyone, we are always curious to know how to help, too, to improve the world.
So when the environment and animal protection meet “tech”, we can only applaud with both hands and spread the information.
Hackathon 2020 by the Free Spirit Foundation and the United States Embassy in France
This Hackathon 2020, called Zoohackathon, has a particular vocation: To create or invent technological solutions to fight against illegal animal trafficking.

Animal trafficking is indeed a real danger for the conservation of species, protected or not, but also a danger for the humans responsible for protecting these animals (park wardens, experts, scientists, etc.)
The first Zoohackathon was created in 2016 by the Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America and the Director General of the Association "Zoos & Aquariums" to
celebrate World Nature Conservation Day. Since then, this event has taken place all over the world and has been part of the strategy to combat wildlife trafficking. It brings together students, the main institutional actors and international associations committed to the protection of wildlife.
A virtual European Hackathon
For 48 hours, participants from all over Europe will be able to analyze a series of issues and propose technological solutions to help fight wildlife trafficking via a central 100% online platform.
The event is designed to raise awareness, stimulate innovation, educate and empower participants, as well as increase regional cooperation in environment, science and technology, and address common global challenges.
A jury will select the top three winning teams who will then pitch their solutions virtually and compete for the global prize on the "final day of global pitching" from November 13-15.
Who can participate in Hackathon 2020?
That's the good news! Everyone in tech can participate: IT students, IT experts and professionals, wildlife enthusiasts from all over Europe who are committed to the protection of species. But who knows, it may even be possible to participate with a team specialized in No-Code!
The only constraint: be in teams of 3 to 5 people to participate.

The Hackathon will be held in video participation from November 6 to 8 for the European version. The global challenge will take place for 48 hours from November 13 to 15, still in “virtual event” mode because of the coronavirus.
